Hello!

Welcome to Bertie’s Shirts - a space built for people who live and breathe the beautiful game and the shirts that define it.

From iconic classics to rare finds, we’re here for those who appreciate football culture on and off the pitch, all brought together in a place designed to shop, hang out, and enjoy the game your own way.

Authentic shirts

Based in Gateshead's Railway Quarter, we specialise in carefully sourced, genuine vintage football shirts from clubs and countries around the world. Every piece we stock has a story, from iconic match-day moments to cult classics and forgotten gems. Whether you're a lifelong supporter, a collector, or just love the style, we’re here to help you find something that actually means something.

But we’re more than just a shop

We’ve created a space where you can hang out, have a drink, grab a bite, and talk football. Take your time, meet mates, and enjoy the atmosphere — whether you’re browsing the rails, playing a game of pool, or trying out our gaming station with a PS5, vintage Nintendo, and SEGA consoles.

This is football culture off the pitch.

No fast fashion. No replicas pretending to be the real thing. Just authentic shirts, good people, and a laid-back space built around the love of the game.

Whether you’re hunting for a rare shirt, competing for high scores, or just looking for a new spot to spend your afternoon, you’re always welcome here.

Come for the shirts. Stay for the vibe.

Amy's story

So where did all this start?

Picture the scene — it’s 1993, Kevin Keegan has just secured promotion to the Premier League, and the buzz around the city is almost as strong as the smell of malt from the Newcastle brewery. I’m 5 years old and my dad is taking me to my first Newcastle United match.

We head into the supporter shop so I’m fully kitted out and looking the part — the shop being a porta cabin (you know the type your school said was temporary and was still there 10 years later). And there it is — my first piece of shirt history and the start of a beautiful polyester love story: an Asics blue star toon top. MINT.

Perched on a cold concrete bollard in the Milburn paddock every other weekend was the highlight of my time with my old man.

Fast forward a few years and that one shirt turned into a habit. Then a collection. Then, if we’re honest, an obsession. Every shirt had a story — where it came from, who wore it, what it meant. It was never just something to wear, it was about holding onto a moment.

And that’s where Bertie’s Shirts comes from.

What started with matchdays and a love for the game has grown into something bigger — a space to share that feeling with people who get it. A place where the shirts mean something, the stories matter, and you can take your time, have a drink, play a game, and just enjoy it all.

Because for some of us, it was never just football. And it was never just a shirt.
